Deep Drawn Stamping Services

Deep drawn stamping is a metal stamping process used to form metal sheets into various kinds of hollow axisymmetric components. Shapes produced by this stamping technique are mostly cylindrical; however, box-shaped objects can also be achieved. Deep drawn stamping can be used to form numerous household and industrial components including, but not limited to, sinks, baking pans, plumbing fixtures, automotive parts, beverage cans, and casings.

This form of metal stamping involves applying a punching force to a metal sheet, thereby causing it to be drawn radially into a die cavity. First, the metal sheet is placed on a forming die. The sheet is held in place at the ends via a compressive force applied by a blank holder. An axial force is then applied to the sheet metal via a mechanical punch tool, causing the workpiece to deform and flow into the die cavity, which creates the desired shape.

“Deep drawing” is so named because the final components usually have depths that exceed their diameter.

Our Deep Drawn Stamping Services

Manor Tool & Manufacturing Company’s custom deep drawn stamping services have been used to manufacture countless parts and components in the automotive, medical, aerospace, consumer goods, and alternative energy industries. Our fleet of more than thirty 400-ton presses feature a wide variety of press strokes and are capable of stamping large and very deep drawn parts.

At Manor Tool, we can accommodate various custom die sizes up to four feet wide and eight feet long for a variety of metals, including:

  • Aluminum
  • Steel
  • Brass
  • Copper
  • Nickel
  • Plastics

Parts produced at our facilities typically range in thickness between 0.005 inches to 0.5 inches, and are manufactured to tight tolerances.

All deep drawn stamped/formed products, assemblies, and sub-assemblies manufactured in our facility are subjected to our strict ISO 9001:2015 certified quality control processes at every stage of production. Inspection systems such as camera vision equipment, coordinate-measuring machines (CMM), and other monitoring and control systems help us meet client requirements, maintain tolerances, and ensure compliance with the most stringent industry standards.

The finished part, having been created from a single sheet of metal, is strong and seamless. The precision of the process allows it to be completed quickly, for less technical labor costs and quicker turnaround times.

Step 01

Based on material requirements, a flat metal sheet is determined.

01

Step 1

Step 02

Machine operators properly position the die and punch on the press.

02

Step 2

Step 03

The metal sheet, or blank, is placed on the die.

03

Step 3

Step 04

The punch is applied against the die with force, which shapes the workpiece as desired.

Step 4

Step 05

The process is repeated to produce the correct depth and size.

Benefits of Deep Drawn Stamping

One of the main advantages of this stamping method is the characteristic high quality of the parts produced. Deep drawn parts are created from a single, uniform piece of sheet metal. Therefore, the final result is a component with no seams or joined parts. This seamless construction decreases the probability of weak points in the product which can be susceptible to failure and leaks.

Deep drawing also increases the strength of the stamped material through a process known as strain hardening. The deformation of the metal rearranges the material’s crystalline structure, resulting in a marked strengthening of the final product.

Deep drawing is also beneficial for high production volumes. Once the appropriate tooling and die have been created, the overall stamping process is automated and is capable of producing thousands of high-quality parts with repeatable accuracy in a relatively short time frame. Ultimately, cycle times and downtimes are minimized, and the unit cost of each part is reduced accordingly.

Learn More

Not only is deep drawn stamping one of the most common types of metal forming techniques, but it is also one of the most precise. Its ability to mass produce metal parts with repeatable accuracy without compromise on quality makes it an ideal choice for almost any industry.
